Bourbon is a highly prized varietal of coffee introduced to Bourbon Island (now Réunion Island) by French missionaries in the early 1700s, hence it's name.  It remained there until the mid-1800s when trade routes spread to East Africa and Latin America where this highly sought after bean hails from today.

The rich volcanic soil and high elevation found in the Kayanza province of Burundi allow this beautiful variety to express the fruitiness and sweetness we can only find in this region. Rubagabaga is located in the northern province of Kayanza, in the commune of Gatara. Kayanza is well-known and highly regarded for producing some of the best coffees in the country.  In the local Kirundi language, it is pronounced as roo-bah-gah-BAH-gah.

We're excited to have the privilege of sharing this unique microlot with our Decker Island family.  Let us know what you think!
